Nick Jonas and Paul Rudd to Star in John Carney’s Latest Musical Comedy, ‘Power Ballad’
Lionsgate has once again proven its keen eye for potential blockbusters by securing the North American, UK, and Ireland rights to “Power Ballad,” the upcoming musical comedy from acclaimed director John Carney. This acquisition marks an exciting development in the world of cinema, bringing together a stellar cast and a director known for his musical prowess.
The film, set to star Nick Jonas and Paul Rudd, promises to be a unique blend of comedy and music that has become Carney’s signature style. With hits like “Once” and “Sing Street” under his belt, Carney’s involvement alone is enough to generate buzz among film enthusiasts and music lovers alike.
Adam Fogelson, chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “I’ve always been a huge fan of John’s movies, and I’ve had my eye on this particular film for some time. It combines the best of John’s immense creative talents with a marketable concept and an incredible cast. I couldn’t be happier that he and the rest of the team have entrusted us with it.”
The production team behind “Power Ballad” is equally impressive. Anthony Bregman’s Likely Story is producing alongside 30WEST, which is also financing the picture with Screen Ireland. Carney himself will be producing with Peter Cron from Likely Story, as well as Robert Walpole and Rebecca O’Flanagan from Treasure Entertainment. This collaboration reunites Carney with the team behind his recent success, “Flora and Son,” which made waves at Sundance before being picked up by Apple.
Carney, who co-wrote the script with Peter McDonald, shared his excitement about the project finally coming to fruition: “I am so delighted this film, which has been in my heart for so long, has found its home.”
While details about the plot are still under wraps, the combination of Carney’s musical storytelling, Jonas’s pop star credentials, and Rudd’s comedic timing suggests that “Power Ballad” could hit all the right notes with audiences.
