Amazon MGM Studios has announced that Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway will star in the highly anticipated film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling thriller “Verity.” The project marks another significant addition to Amazon’s growing slate of book-to-screen adaptations.
Michael Showalter, known for his critically acclaimed work on “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” has been tapped to direct the psychological thriller. The current screenplay adaptation comes from Nick Antosca, following previous drafts by Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna, and the writing team of Will Honley and April Maguire.
The film will follow the story of Lowen Ashleigh, a writer struggling to make ends meet, who receives a life-changing opportunity when she’s hired by Jeremy Crawford to complete a series of novels originally written by his wife, Verity Crawford (played by Hathaway). The job takes a dark turn when Lowen discovers an unfinished manuscript that may hold disturbing secrets about the Crawford family’s past. Verity, meanwhile, remains incapacitated following a mysterious accident, adding another layer of intrigue to the narrative.
The project brings together a strong producing team, including Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund for Eat the Cat, Michael Showalter and Jordana Mollick representing Semi-Formal Productions, and Hathaway herself through her Somewhere Pictures banner. Author Colleen Hoover is also involved as a producer through Heartbones Entertainment, alongside Stacey Sher for Shiny Penny. Lauren Levine from Heartbones Entertainment will serve as executive producer.
The film is set for a theatrical release, though a specific date has not yet been announced. This adaptation marks another milestone in Colleen Hoover’s remarkable journey from self-published author to literary phenomenon, with “Verity” being one of her most acclaimed works in the thriller genre.
