In April, one of our favorite horror franchises, The Omen, will get its newest chilling installment since 2006. Here’s everything we know about the film so far.
The First Omen, directed by Arkasha Stevenson, is set to be a prequel to the original 1976 classic, The Omen. The Omen is about a boy who is adopted by American diplomat, Robert, after his wife, Katherine, delivers a stillborn child. After several horrifying incidents, it is slowly revealed that the boy is the spawn of the devil himself.
The Omen is widely revered as one of the main classic horror films of the 70s. With its many shocks, twists, and turns, the original movie has kept many fans on the edge of their seats throughout the whole film. If you’re a fan of the first movies, you’ll be excited to learn what this new prequel will be about!
What will The First Omen be about?
Back in 2020, it was reported that The Omen would go into Damien’s origins. According to the official synopsis, the movie follows a young American woman who is sent to Rome to dedicate her life to the church. While there, she encounters a darkness that will cause her to question her faith and uncover a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of the antichrist.
Out of the 4 movies and a short TV show that has already been released, The First Omen will be the first to explain where Damien comes from, though it has not been confirmed whether Damien will make an appearance in the new movie or not. The First Omen is the first movie in the franchise to be released since 2006.
Who’s been cast for The First Omen?
Several cast members have been announced, but very little is known about who they’ll be playing. The biggest name cast so far is Bill Nighy, who is set to play Lawrence. Nell Tiger Free is also set to star in a major role, but her character has yet to be revealed.
Other cast announcements have been Ralph Ineson who will play Father Brennan, Anton Alexander who will play Father Spiletto, Sônia Braga who will play Silvia, Andrea Arcangeli who will play Paolo, and Mia McGovern Zaini who will play Beatrice.
The First Omen Trailer and Poster
If you weren’t already excited about the new movie, its first official trailer will have you ready to see it on the big screen. On January 3rd, the first official trailer for The First Omen was released. Set to add a creepy and chilling touch, the one-minute trailer is played completely in reverse, to the song “If I Had a Heart” by Fever Ray. At the very end, the trailer gives a nod to one of the most chilling parts of the original movie.
Throughout the trailer, we are given glimpses of the birth of Damien and the demonic possession that the film is about. As we get closer to its April release date, we expect to see more trailers come out.
On the same day, we also got a look at the movie poster which features what we assume is the female lead entering the church. The poster, in black and white, is a frightening nod to the feel of the first movie which was released in 1976.
The First Omen Release Date
The new movie is set to be released on April 5, 2024. While April is also a strong time of the year for horror movies, it is the only major movie announced for that weekend, giving it a weekend that will be sure to chill you to the bone.
